Communicating your results effectively is an important skill. We all want to get our work published, read, and noticed. In our Write it Right (WiR) workshop you will learn how to:
WiR workshops are intended for PhD students, postdocs, researchers and managers who wish to make the most of their results. Each workshop mixes lectures and exercises. Discussion is always encouraged. Our workshops help participants with writing successful scientific publications, grant proposals and technical reports.
We adopt a practical, "hands on", approach. This starts with getting people to actually write about their work. Our knowledge and enthusiasm, plus the combination of lectures, exercises, and individual advice improves the quality and impact of the participants' writing.
History: We started the WiR project in 2002 as an "in-house" course at the Faculty of Science of the University of Amsterdam. Following the success of this course, we joined the "soft skills" training initiative of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, expanding from there to workshops all over Europe.
There are various workshop formats depending on the wishes of the host institution. We have given workshops at universities, research institutes and companies, from the Delft School of Architechture all the way to the managers of the ING bank. If you want to organise a WiR workshop at your institute, please contact us.
We also organize an annual two-day workshop, which is open to everyone, at the ECC Leiden. The next WiR workshop will be held at the SFB Mikroplastik in Bayreuth on Monday and Tuesday, 15-16 April, 2024. This workshop is organised by The University of Bayreuth.
